Interview: Bryant Wright, Jimmy Draper Discuss Name Change Proposal

During the recent SBC Executive Committee meeting, SBC LIFE was able to sit down for a few minutes with Bryant Wright, president of the SBC, and Jimmy Draper, chairman of the task force Wright appointed to advise him on the advisability of proposing a name change for the SBC to the Convention. SBC LIFE also solicited and received email replies to its questions.

Fentress & Patterson: Descriptor would benefit African Americans, ethnic groups, non-Southerners

The following remarks by Maryland pastor Ken Fentress and seminary president Paige Patterson were part of the Feb. 20 report to the SBC Executive Committee by a task force that studied the possibility of a name change of the Southern Baptist Convention and proposed the option of Southern Baptists also calling themselves "Great Commission Baptists."

TASK FORCE'S REPORT: Transcript

Jimmy Draper, chairman of the task force that studied the question of changing the name of the Southern Baptist Convention, presented the following report to the SBC Executive Committee during its Monday night (Feb. 20) meeting. The task force was named by SBC President Bryant Wright last September.

Patterson, Mohler discuss name change

Paige Patterson and R. Albert Mohler Jr., each presidents of Southern Baptist seminaries and members of the task force appointed to study the possibility of a new name for the Southern Baptist Convention, have made public comments on the issue.
